It’s Not Just the Weather
You cannot have missed the major
story in the news over the last couple of months. There
have been massive storms moving through our country, triggering
disruption in the lives of millions of people, and causing
damage to personal property and infrastructure in the hundreds
of billions of dollars.
As we witness these events, (and
those to come) we become aware that change and personal
transformation is the constant for all of us. We may not
have had our homes or businesses destroyed, families scattered
about the country or seen our jobs disappear before us, but
seeing it happen on the scale we have observed should give us
pause. The experience we have gone through as a nation is
one that touches our consciousness. It allows us to reassess who
we are, what we are about and review our place in the universe.
All these things could happen to
us. Yes, they really could. We may not be threatened
by a hurricane, but we do have several volcanoes, and a very
unstable series of fault lines close to us that if any or all
decide that it is their time to move, all our lives will change.
You may not believe that major
‘earth’ events are close to happening. It is the daily events
that cause most of the change in life. They are large and
small, but they make us reassess or relationship to ourselves
and our own personal universe.
In the course of my readings I
have witnessed how many lives have changed because of one
experience. You may have heard the same stories or been
affected in similar ways.
The young woman who was in a
traffic collision taught her the value of her life. Her
relationship with friends and family radically changed.
The fire that destroyed many
possessions started another man to re-evaluate his whole
relationship to material things.
A discussion with a teacher
awakened me and changed my career path.
Or, meeting that one special
person, who turned your life upside-down.
Life is always about change.
It cannot be avoided. We cannot build walls around our
home and business, nor can we build them around our minds.
Life happens constantly. It keeps us on our toes and on
guard. It will not be taken for granted.
It is your understanding of
change that allows you to always be prepared, be on alert and
open to the possibilities. You change the way you look at
things and the things you look at change. |
